Why do I have redness?
Our favorite ingredients!

In this article, we are going to focus on a common phenomenon that can be very disabling: redness.

There are two categories of redness: redness triggered by stress, emotional shock, the practice of a sport, extreme temperatures but also a spicy diet as well as the ingestion of alcohol. In these specific cases, it is transient and sudden redness sometimes renamed "flushes".

The second cause of redness will be linked to an illness. When these rednesses settle, we speak erythrosis.

Here we will look at these different causes in more detail and ways to remedy them.

What causes redness?

Sudden flushing of the cheeks is due to vasodilation of the blood vessels in the skin, causing a rush of blood.

However, there are other risk factors that can cause redness:

  • Rosacea or couperose : it is a frequent and chronic dermatosis of the skin affecting the small vessels of the face, generally appearing after the age of 30 and which tends to develop gradually.
The most frequent form is the vascular form which most often affects the nose, the cheeks and sometimes also the chin and the forehead. This characteristic redness is accompanied by great sensitivity, making the use of topical topical difficult. This form can be accompanied by hot flashes following the ingestion of food or the intake of alcohol.

  • Allergies : indeed, an allergic reaction of the skin (example of hives) can be characterized by red patches on the face.

  • Acne : Acne pimples are characterized by inflammation of the face that can cause redness and scarring.

Our advice to fight against redness

The first tip concerns your daily routine. When you tend to have redness, the fundamental thing is to treat your skin with the greatest gentleness since the goal here is not to over-stimulate blood circulation.

Your daily care must be adapted and gentle so as not to sensitize the skin. Thus, a double cleansing with a make-up remover oil then a soft milk is recommended. Be careful not to use soaps that can dry out the skin quickly and have the opposite effect.

The weekly exfoliation should also be extremely gentle and an enzymatic and non-mechanical exfoliation (with grains) is to be preferred. Once again, do not try to rub in order to remove your make-up, dabbing will be more than enough and will be less aggressive.

You should also protect your face from the sun with an SPF sunscreen. Indeed, UV radiation can aggravate redness.

Another trick is to put a washcloth soaked in cold water on the cheek to produce the opposite effect of vasodilation: a vasoconstriction.
